PATH FINDER FORCE LANCASTERS
20" X 15"
  By Darryl Legg

With the formation of the Path Finder Force in August 1942, together with the introduction of vital new technical navigational aids, RAF Bomber Command's effectiveness improved dramatically. Brainchild of Group Captain Don Bennett, one of the most brilliant technical airmen of his generation, the Pathfinder squadrons were made up from the Command's finest pilots and navigators, their task being to find and mark the targets with bright pyrotechnics, designed to guide the main bombing forces accurately over the target. It has been said that Bennett's Path-finding and target-marking concept contributed more to the success of Bomber Command than any other man. Sir Arthur Harris said of Bennett "he is the most efficient airman I ever met. His courage, both moral and physical, is outstanding and as a technician he is unrivalled"

Made up from squadrons of Wellingtons, Stirlings, Halifaxes, Lancasters, and Mosquitos, the Path Finder Force's contribution became synonymous with the ultimate victory of RAF Bomber Command's WWII campaign.

In his evocative painting of the most famous RAF bomber aircraft of WWII, Darryl Legg depicts Lancasters of No. 83 Squadron, Path Finder Force, heading for Germany as dusk begins to fall on a spring evening in 1943. This work of art is supplied stretched and ready to frame and securely packaged for shipment via fast courier (Fedex, DHL, etc) at our cost to any destination in the world.
